Skimpy Bikinis

Bikini swim wear is arguably the most popular swimwear today with an annual sales volume reaching nearly eight million dollars a year. While today two piece swimwear is very popular this was not always true.

The two piece bathing suit was first introduced in 1946 by Louis Reard. The suit was so provocative at this time period that he had a hard time finding model to introduce the suit to the public. Mr. Reard eventually had to hire a nude dancer to preview his new fashion piece.

The bikini did not gain real popularity until the late nineteen fifties to early nineteen sixties. The Beach Boys music and movies like The Beach Party helped the swimwear gain popularity.

Today's bikinis have taken on an entirely look from the suits from the fifties and sixties. There are at least a half dozen different designs today including the string bikini, micro bikini, tankini, thong bikini, and the bandini.

Suits like the bandini and tankini are more suited for active beach goers and water sports enthusiasts. The bandini has a typical bottom with a tube like top made of spandex. This suit will provide a lot of support to the chest area and is great for beach volleyball, water skiing, tubing, and many other outdoor activities.

If your self confidence is high and you have been in the gym over the winter months, something a little more revealing like the thong or micro bikini might be more your style. These suits are not designed for sports activities but are sure to turn some heads on the beach. The thong has a strap covering the center of the buttocks with no coverage on the sides. The micro bikini is as revealing or more with the bottoms consisting of a thong like back with minimum coverage on the front. The tops are equally as revealing as the bottoms with only a small triangle area of coverage over the breast area.

The tankini suit is a typical bikini bottom with a string top that covers at least half if not all of the belly area. This suit is for the women that does not want the confinement of a one piece suit but would like some additional coverage on the trunk area.

With so many different types of bikini fashion today, you should not have any trouble finding a suit that fits your body shape and one that will either reveal or cover up as much of your body as you desire.
